Ocean. They are always in the ocean but in cold season they come close to shore to spawn it’s easier to catch them in cold season.
We’ve caught ling in the Straight outdo Port Townsend
If you are inland you can find Ling cod (burbot) in Bead Lake north of Spokane and Kootney Lake in BC north of Nelson. There are others around here but I'm not sure which ones. Good luck.
Ling season opens Sunday for Puget Sound and the Strait. One fish between 26 and 36 inches. No fishing below 110 feet.
