Curious on other people’s opinions on using a hook just strong enough that it will bend before your line breaks, anyone ever thought of this?

Works fine until you have to stop something from diving into structure. Hook straightens because you can't give drag.

I’m talking about using the hook as a kind of tippet, a weak link

I understand what you're saying. I'm telling you it works fine until you're in the scenario I described. You can't stop a fish from diving into cover because the hook will straighten.

I've heard of it before, but I'd personally rather my line snap on a snag than have a hook bend out on a fish.

The point is to have your line never snap, since the hook will bend just before it, basically if your line is gonna snap, the hook will bend right before that. Kind of like the theory behind a tippet or leader

Not the investment you should be interested in. How about looking into using single hooks instead of trebles.

I'm pretty sure people have thought of this and come to the conclusion that it makes zero sense and that's why you don't see it anywhere.

I can give you an example of some sense, you won’t be leaving hooks and lines in fishes mouths, you won’t have to re rig, you lose less gear, just need to swap out the hook after, how would you see it anywhere, are you questioning every angler on their tactics?

I would say yes, it is an advantage of less stout hooks. But if you can bend it out easier so can a fish.

You asked for opinions and you got opinions. Why argue with them?

That would be one very weak hook or some unnecessarily heavy line. Neither works for me. Use the reel drag properly and you have no such problem.

Crappy fishermen often use such a hook because they normally fish in snags.
