I went back in late 80's and yes the allure was still there, and like you say many changes. The roof top revolving restaurant in Destin long gone. That was our date night hot spot when we weren't eating crab cakes.

I don't know if they still do missile testing at Eglin any more. That was always interesting to see the occasional whoops. Go up 1000 feet or so and turn back around and hit the gulf. Yep a Oh crap moment i bet.

On a fairly frequent basis we heard "booms" going off from some sort of ordinance...much larger than small arms fire. Kind of like mini sonic booms. Some local folks advised us that it was normal and I suspect that they were related to the airbase for sure. One particular day we heard a "boom" coming from Eglin and then a very large plume of smoke start to ascend in the distance and then eventually begin wafting over the Gulf. It took a full hour for it to dissipate!

Well that answers my wonderment, Thanks.

There used to be some users here on the stage from that area, haven't seen a post from them in awhile. Now they could hook you up on some nice locations for next year if you tried the Pm section.

I don't seem to suffer from 'cabin fever'. I'm too easily entertained. I have been checking on the water situation for weeks now. It seems like whenever I have spare time to go, the rivers are practically at flood stage. Oh, well, other hobbies are calling.

Thank you for your comment lawrence1! Hobbies are definitely a good way to keep the mind occupied and focused!

Trout season opens this weekend and bass will follow afterwards. I'm looking forward to the upcoming seasons on the water!
