I have caught fish isolated on my fish finder. So, yes, yuh can. I normally do not. I use it for temps, depths, rock piles.
Remember, the shallower you go, the closer the target is. So, when shallow, you could be right on top.
I have a transducer on my front trolling motor and one in the rear, alll going to the same head unit.
I definitely use it when I troll.
I cast troll. I see a monster pike, Muskie or pickerel, while trolling, I go over the fish, then cast out 75’, closing the bale immediately.
The bait shoots to the bottom, and they hit on the dive. I troll 2.5-4 mph.

Two camps in this debate. Those that like them, and those that don’t. To each their own. I for one find it an extremely valuable piece of equipment. When dialed in and used properly, it’s amazing. Will it catch more fish ? That’s debatable. But it will in certain circumstances eliminate water with no fish. It will allow you to make more accurate cast towards fish. In my very humble opinion it has put me on a lot of fish I would have missed. It doesn’t eliminate the need to factor in all the variables and elements of where to fish and what lures to use, but it’s a start. It’s just a tool added to your overall arsenal. And, it’s actually very fun and you’ll find more structure beyond your standard 2D sonar and side imaging. Again, it’s just my 2 cents.

Thanks, guys!
That is my objective - don’t waste time where there are no fish.
You still have to catch the fish that you “see” with proper lure selection and presentation but it should definitely improve you probability of catching fish 🎣
