A few days ago, on The Stage, a post showed a person that pumped air into a bloodworm while saltwater fishing to get it to float off the bottom, a nice striped bass picture was shown as being caught. So, I tried the same today using night crawlers at a freshwater lake in PA., at a deeper part of the lake, in 42 feet of water. I dropped night crawlers onto the bottom using a fish finder rig. To my surprise I did catch fish “one after another”, they were channel catfish with the longest being 19 inches. It does catch fish!

What is a fish finder "rig" ?? just curious....

Good question. A fish finder rig to me and what I used to catch the channel cats: 20# mono mainline treaded through a 1 oz. barrel sinker tied to a swivel, tie around 30"s of 20# braided leader to the other end of the swivel and a size 1 bait holder hook onto the other end of the leader. Depending on species of fish, bank or boat fishing, water current...all the tackle can be substituted for different sizes. Hope this info helps.

Thank you for replying and Big Bass in 25' of water sounds good to me.

I was just seeing what I could catch with a fish finder rig and air in a nightcrawler at a deep(er) water depth of 42'.

I was fishing on Blue Marsh Lake; it is not far from your location of Auburn. Did you ever fish that lake and if so, did you catch walleye's, muskie's, striped bass?

The diameter of the needle of that type of worm blower is far too large to make it actually practical. Don't know about bloodworms, but the hole this type of blower makes in a nightcrawler, simply lets the air back out, nearly immediately.
I agree with OZ on using a diabetic needle/syringe. Tiny hole, hardly any air loss....stays floating. Just my experience in floating worms.

It will catch trout on a Carolina rig, also.

David, good luck fishing at all those nice lakes you mentioned and it is good to know stripers are being caught in Blue Marsh.

Oh yeah it works I do it all the time injecting worms with air. When I'm fishing for trout. I even add a mini marshmallow to it. And use the marshmallow more as a guide than for bait. If I see the marshmallow floating in the surface it's probably time to check my bait. Because the worm may not be floating anymore.

Yes but you need to very careful.
It won't expand very much.
I found it not to be worth the trouble honestly.

I've tried many of the YouTube videos.
Some work some not so much

I used to use a syringe to put air into nightcrawlers now I just add a small pork float between the weight an the hook to float the bait up off the bottom 🤗
