Hello 1313. That's quite a photo. I can be wrong & if so will eat a frog but I call foul on this photo. Dennison Dam & it's tailrace waters are at least 1000 miles from where a sturgeon could live.

Hello 1313. I was telling a friend about the photo & he informed me that he caught a 24 inch sturgeon in the Arkansas River near Tulsa several years ago. It was foul hooked, not legally caught & was turned loose. No photo. I will be man enough to eat the hind legs off a frog, maybe tonight. I've fished below Dennison dam & compared to the clear cold water sturgeon actually live in I just couldn't imagine one surviving in that warm muddy water. Tight lines.

Hey BC. We have a lot of Sturgeon fishin out here on our rivers and bays. The water is always kinda muddy to VERY muddy.
3 feet of visibility is GOOD, 2 feet is pretty good, 1 foot is fair 6 inches sometimes is the norm and lately we've only had a couple of inches. And still lots of Sturgeon caught.
I don't really care to fish for them. It's way to slow fishin for me and since I don't eat them it is a waste of time to catch and land one for me. I'd MUCH rather fish for Stripers. That's JMO though.

Hello Saw. All the TV shows & magazine articles I've been exposed to show Sturgeon in beautiful clear water that's very cold. I think they are a very interesting species but I don't think I would deliberately try to catch one. Below Dennison Dam (lake Texhoma) the normal flow of water is low. That's the Red River. The water is warm & muddy with an occasional deeper bend or hole. The river is flowing through sand & one must be careful of quicksand. The striper fishing below the dam is excellent when water is released & catfish are plentiful there also. The full moon next month is the beginning of my favorite fishing, bluegill. Tight lines.

Even though I was born and raised in Texas I've never fished there. Would love to sometime though.

We have caught several sturgeon over the past couple of years in the Arkansas River around the Tulsa Oklahoma area. None longer than maybe 2 feet in length, but they are in there...

I've researched this subject seriously. The state biologist says a big Oklahoma shovelnose sturgeon is about 2 ft long. They are the smallest member of the sturgeon family & he says they inhabit both the Arkansas & Red River. I live about 20 miles from the Arkansas & have spent a lot of time snagging & fishing it's waters but have never seen the little beast. Wish you could join me for dinner tonight. Frog legs, catfish, coleslaw, fresh Morrell mushrooms & plenty of sweet tea. Tight lines.

Sounds like a dinner I would enjoy 😋

All of the sturgeon we have caught were within the Tulsa city limits in the Arkansas River, and have been caught on shrimp, crawdads and worms while tight lining and fishing for catfish...

I might just have to give that technique a try this summer. I would love to catch one and if it was 24 inches long I would definitely put sturgeon on my table. Tight lines
