Bought my first set of whopper ploppers. 2 3.5 inch and. 5 inch. The 5 inch model has a split ring on the front. Do you tie onto the ring or remove it and tie directly to the lure eye?

I use the ring. I've tried both ways and didn't see much of a difference. Everyone is Going to be different. You should have fun with them. I've been using them for a long time and every year I do well with them. Good luck

I always use the ring if it is there, I believe they put the ring there for a reason and the ring helps give it the action that it is supposed to have. But, then again it put "junk" up where there is not supposed to be any junk. IDK! Let's see what they say.

Use the ring unless you use some form of a clip.

I prefer the split ring because it give the Whopper Plopper more freedom to move. The same size lure comes with a split ring and then sometimes it will come without a split ring. Go figure why with or without??? On some of my Crankbaits I have replaced the round split ring with the oval split rings. I haven’t noticed any different between the two. I believe that the intent for the oval split is so the fishing line doesn’t get caught into where the split starts and stops. Less chance of the fishing line to get damaged.. I have also replaced the split rings that hold the trebles with the oval split rings. The different with the oval split rings is the hooks hang a little bit lower...
