We've moved back to Iowa County after being gone 50 years. I think I was feeling the call of my ancestors. Retirement is providing an opportunity for angling-- mostly at Governor Dodge State Park and Blackhawk Lake. I haven't been trout fishing since I was knee high and would like to give it a try this season. I see DNR postings about using artificial bait only. Question: what do you suggest for bait? Here's a trout stream between Montfort and Highland that I fished as a kid. Known as "snowbottom". Ever been there?
Thanks everyone for your postings. I'm eating it up. 😋

Welcome home! I have fished Blackhawk Lake on a regular basis as I live in Boscobel. I have trout fished that stretch. Use gold bladed rooster tails or a jig called “Trout Magnets”, which can used under a float or simply reeled back with a jigging motion. Also welcome to retirement, it’s amazing.
