It's that time of year for the Garden State to really show off her colors; really beautiful. Thanks Kandy!

Unfortunately everybody's idea of NJ is what you see from the turnpike up around New York City.

Yep, that stretch between Newark and Elizabeth is a toxic wasteland. Traveled 95 for decades visiting relatives and in-laws in NYC and if anything it's gotten worse. Such a contrast to the Jersey part of Greater Philly.

And that's not even the nice part.

I remember seeing the Cherry blossoms steaming into Japan in the 1950's this time of year.

Thanks for the pictures. I grew up in Newark/East Orange in the '50's and have many fond memories of Branch Brook Park. Sleigh riding down the gentle hills when it snowed, enjoying the cherry blossoms and tulips in the spring. If we didn't have anything else planned, every Sunday after Mass the family would take a walk around the park. On a fishing note-my father and mother were both Newark natives. When my dad was 9 years old he and a buddy got ahold of a fishing hook and some string, dug up some worms, and hid in a spot in the bushes that they were sure no one could see, along Branch Brook Lake, and proceeded to fish in the no fishing allowed lake. Three bluegills later a Newark cop showed up. He told them there would be a stiff fine ($1?) for any of the fish that didn't survive. He prayed continuously until the third one flopped away. The cop confiscated their "rig" and sent them home. He was always a strict adherent to all the fish and game laws.
