I am just getting started. I am wondering if and how you put personal identification on your rods and reels. Or don't you?

I donโ€™t, but you should nowadays. Post a pic if you do so.

It may not help much, but a small label maker would work on the rod. I only marked length on my kayak rods for reference.

Welcome RedMommaLynne to the stage. I guess I've never done this. I would take the reel off the pole and engrave my name on the bottom of the reel that way they couldn't see it ๐Ÿค”

The only time Iโ€™ve seen that was when a few friends of mine had custom rods made. Where do you fish near W.! pA? Thatโ€™s where I live too

Mine aren't ID'd, but what I have seen done is sticking one of those return address labels, like you get from a charity solicitation mailing, lengthwise on the thicker end of the blank, either just in front of the reel seat or on the exposed blank on a split grip, and wrapping with clear packing tape so it stays on and doesn't get wet. If I went that route I would have a label with just my name plus email address and/or phone #.

Iโ€™m curious as to why you would do that. Thief? I doubt that you would ever see them again. Getting mixed up with others? Possibly, I guess. Not sure. Just asking. Just in case I need to do itโ€ฆ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŸon

Can't help with this one as I have that "pry my rods from my cold dead hands" mentality.

We have Cannon AFB about 5 miles away. Met 2 airmen that asked where to go fishing. I told them I had good luck at Lake Sumner. They said they were never going there again as there were thieves there. I told them I was sorry to hear that as I have never had a problem. They went to get beer when they got back someone had opened their cooler and stolen their steaks. I started laughing and asked if anything else was missing. They said no. I told them that the thieves were raccoons and they knew how to open coolers. They laughed and said next time they would lock it up in trunk of car.

I guess they didnโ€™t have a return address sticker on themโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŸon

Donโ€™t mark with ID. But, did put a thin slice of orange tape around the blank. I fish with a lot of guys on different boats and we all have some of the same gear. Each bring three setups. Itโ€™s just easy to find mine in a bunch that all look or are the same.

I would engrave my name where they could see it, as a deterrent

Donโ€™t recommend engraving a rod blank. Thought if someone steals your gear itโ€™s gone. Unless they are really really stupid.
