I bought a fish finder and I’m working through mounting the transducer.
I don’t want to drill through the transom of my tinny and I was wondering if gluing a piece of cutting board to the transom with epoxy and then screwing the transducer mount to the cutting board.
Anyone try something like this, any thoughts on doing this?
Thank you in advance
I’d use a piece of PVC board ie. Azek, Veranda etc. Get a 5/4 board so it will be an 1” thick. The best glue you can find and glue her on. I’d probably use a couple metal roofing screws (they have water proof washers) from the inside to really keep block in place. That’s what I’ve done on little boats and what was done on my little aluminum boat before I got it.

Amazon has ready made glue on transducer mounts on their site.

That is what I was going to suggest…a couple stainless screws through the transom along with waterproof epoxy to hold it in place if you want a permanent mount.
The BPS/Cabela’s clamp-on unit can work well, too if you want a temporary, adjustable or moveable finder.
Or you can pick up one of those removable suction cup transducer mounts. Back in the day, I felt the same way about drilling holes or screws in to my boat and that's understandable. So that's what I used to use. I never had any problems or issues with it. Besides me forgetting to put it on before heading out. But it was an easy enough fix. Just reach over and stick it on. My boats from the late 50s and was no stranger to holes, screws or bolts as you can see. Long before I got it, but like others have stated screws and bolts are easy enough to make water tight. Just thought I'd share this option with ya. I'll have to look but I think I may still have it floating around here somewhere. If this may be an option you'd like to explore. Let me know and I'll see if I can dig it up and you can have it. If I can find it and it's still in good usable shape, just pay for the shipping.

I didn’t want to drill in my boat either. My son made me a bracket that folded over my trans wall. The inside had a nut welded on with a bolt that worked like a c-clamp tightener. The outside piece was long and extended down to bottom of transom. It laid flat against transom and I fastened transducer to it. I don’t know if that’s explanatory enough. I purchased a Grizzly 1860 and again refused to drill transom. I used that rig until I sold the other boat, which I let depth finder go wit h it. Now I took an 1/8-3/16 th in x 2” piece of aluminum flat bar long enough to run from top to bottom of transom. I drilled two 1/4 “ holes through transom well above water line, and bolted the flat bar onto transom. It lays flat against transom. Then I bolted the transducer onto flat bar at proper position on transom. You will need to get a couple small bolts that have absolutely flat heads. This will permit you to bolt through flat bar from the outside of transom to affix transducer, and create minimal gap between flat bar and transom. Works fine for me. I use depth finder to find structure, and am usually running reasonably slow. As an added amenity I used one 1/4” eye bolt when bolting flat bar on transom. May as well have something to fasten whatever to if I am putting a bolt though my transom. Hope this is not a word salad.
You can glue it to the bottom of the boat and it will work through the hull.
