Put in a bilge pump and some foam board under each bench seat and in the point of the bow. You’ll have as much or more flotation than the boat was designed for and the bilge pump will give you that extra level of safety.

Definitely move the trolling motor to the bow. Like Fred said there is a bunch of good U-tube videos out there.

I’d also put her in the water and see how you like its stability before I went much further. Wouldn’t want to get her out there all finished and not feel comfortable fishing off the deck. I put my deck a little bit lower in mine.

Looking great!!!

Good idea J. They have flotation pods out now days you can add to the transom 👍

Those would be a great add to Aaron’s boat. They add a ton of stability. Kind of expensive but if you can weld you could easily make your own.

Dozerdave the motor isn't fully set at the moment. I just put it where it's sitting to see if I will like. I will more than likely build a foot controlled trolling motor mount in the front so I can center the main motor on my transom.

Ahh, you’ll definitely like it up front… 🐟on

Thanks Fred YouTube Tiny Boat Nation. I'm going to have check that one out also. As I'm sure there's going to be others that do to. Good share

Aaron,
If you have the option consider a recessed foot control for your trolling motor.

To take it one step further Aaron, consider a remote control motor like a Powerdrive or Terrova.. Then you can control it from anywhere in the boat. I love mine.

If you’re willing to double your investment in the boat. I highly suggest a terrova with spot lock. I have the 12 volt version.

I would consider a deck up front instead of a casting deck. I built a 14' lake john boat into a bass boat. A front deck mounted to the top of the boat will hold a bow mounted trolling motor and you should mount a pedestal chair between the first seat and the middle seat. You will have room to use the trolling motor pedal and have storage under the front deck. Put your battery box behind the middle seat and put a small pedestal seat on the back seat. Keep your gas tank in the back with your bilge pump. I made a live well using the middle seat. You will need to drill a hole in the bottom using an internal plug to keep water out until you need it. The water will rise about two thirds up the tank and stabilize. Put the plug in while you use the gas motor to keep water from being forced in. I had flooring in the open bottom areas for stability and to keep from stepping on the ribs on the floor. You will find that this design is better that the deck you have started because it will let you run the boat from the front so you can maneuver for your casting. Good luck with your project, send me a PM if you need any help.

One thing you'll have to do is get a riser for your rod holder. It goes right into your mount and will raise your rod holder high enough for you to use. As it is right now you wouldn't be able to put a rod in it . The butt would hit the deck if it's tilted up too far and a rod wouldn't clear the rail of the boat with it tilted down far enough for the butt to clear the deck. JMO though.

Like J said if you can weld or know someone that can weld aluminum. that would be alot cheaper to make your own. just make sure to put a drain plug in the bottom just in case they start to leak an hold water 👍
