They try to shoot them in the soft spot on the head to get there brain. Brain is only 8 to 9 grams. Very small

A good reason to have a concealed weapons permit!

This is a story of self-control and marksmanship by a brave, cool-headed woman with a small pistol against a fierce predator.

What's the smallest caliber that you would trust to protect yourself?

Here's her story in her own words:

"While out walking along the edge of a pond just outside my house in The Villages with my soon to be ex-husband, discussing property settlement and other divorce issues, we were surprised by a huge 12-ft. alligator which suddenly emerged from the murky water.

It began charging us with its large jaws wide open. She must have been protecting her nest because she was extremely aggressive. If I had not had my little Beretta .25 caliber pistol with me, I would not be here today!

Just one shot to my estranged husband's knee cap was all it took. The gator got him easily, and I was able to escape by just walking away at a brisk pace.

The amount I saved in lawyer's fees was really incredible.

His life insurance was a big bonus!”

Animals are tough. While in Alaska, one of the guys from the army base in Anchorage, went to Kodiak Island to hunt deer. He had one of the 'whistles, that some use to call deer. I've seen it work. He called in a Kodiak Brown bear, that snuck up behind him. He died, and the bear ran off. Once a bear finds how easy it is to feed on us, they need to be taken out. This one was killed a few days later. When skinned, he had several bullets that was embedded under the hide. Not one of them drew blood.
The alligator hunters down here use a .22LR to take out the gator before loading it into the boat.

Had me going there, I was thinking that NO WAY a .25 auto is going to even be noticed by a gator. Then I came to the part about the kneecap. Okay, a .25 is big enough after all.

Reminds me of a joke read on back page of Outdoor Life maybe 40-50 years ago. To guys were hiking and up comes a Grizzly on the trail and one guys bends down to tighten his shoe laces and the other guy said, "You can't our run him, he can run faster than a horse"! The first guy says, " I don't have to out run him, just YOU"!

I had a ,22LR Riminton semi-automatic I bought from a co worker $40 bucks took it frog hunting. I shot a frog between the eye's blew it to pieces, I quickly put it back in the case, to use my 22 shorts gun. I probably could kill a deer with .22LR rifle A charging Bear? He'd be on you before you could aim it, Push your buddy and run!!!!! 🀣

The .25 Cal. probably would not have slowed the gator down much unless she would have shot him in the eyeball.
