How is the crappie fishing this year with the water being so low
Here is the latest fishing report for Lake Belton: Crappie are fair in the deeper waters, but they are starting to make a move shallow biting jigs with slick bait or an ATX lure company 2.25 wicked shad. The full report is below.
Belton Fishing Report
Mar 8, 2023
GOOD. Water lightly stained; 58 degrees; 13.96 feet below pool. A full 9-day warming trend has white bass catch rates steadily increasing with fish feeding more frequently, more aggressively, and in shallower water than just a week or two ago. The morning bite is longer and stronger than the afternoon bite. The white, ⅝ ounce Bladed Hazy Eye Slab is still the top producer for both bottom-oriented fish and large, wandering suspended schools of pre-spawn white bass, although we should see a definitive shift to interest in the MAL Lure, more flash, more bulk, more vibration, once the water temperature hits 60 degrees. Helpful bird activity is still existent, but unpredictable. Well-tuned side-imaging is still the best search tool.
Report by Bob Maindelle, Holding the Line Guide Service. Catfish have been excellent. Fishing along shallow wind blown banks with cut bait has worked the best. Good numbers of eater size bluecats can also be caught drifting 10-25 feet. Flatheads have been good around structures under 10 feet using live perch. Report by Brian Worley, B&S Catfishing. Crappie are fair in the deeper waters, but they are starting to make a move shallow biting jigs with slick bait or an ATX lure company 2.25 wicked shad. Report by Zach Minnix, JigNJerk Guide Service.
