Hi going shrimping this Thursday night 1st time any suggestions?
I had a boat and a sport net on East Galveston Bay for years. Have fun and enjoy what you catch! Just beware of "Stinging Critters". I got nailed by small hardhead catfish quite often. They were never more than a little temporary pain.
But! Mom and Dad lived in Crystal River, Florida where their neighbor "dragged" the near-shore shallows. Early one morning he hauled in his net---and didn't notice the very small stingray buried in his catch. One of its stingers penetrated the muscle tissue in the back of his upper leg. He had to be hospitalized after an infection developed and the recovery was very long. By the way, he had another neighbor with him that day and, later, stated that there was no way he would have made it back to the dock if he had been alone.
Anyway, get out there and enjoy it! If we still had that cabin on Bolivar (that Ike destroyed) I'd still be "dragging". Just remember, there are kids in every coastal neighborhood who would love to go with you and learn about Shrimping!
