I was fortunate to be taught my trade by some of the best. I’ve done well and made most of what I have w my own 2 hands. I’ve employed many men over the years and have enjoyed passing on my knowledge to those who were willing to learn. Most have moved on, and that’s the nature of things, but it’s a good feeling to teach someone a skill that can earn them a living. Now those who have become advanced, and possibly became competitors, I’ve never taught estimating, or how I get work. Same as fishing, I’m willing to share secrets and skills, but not my favorite locations. It takes years to build a clientele as well as find various productive spots to fish in your area. Some of my best times fishing were discovering a new lake and testing to see what it holds. Sometimes success others not. Always an adventure, and for me, that’s what it’s all about. Maybe I speak only for myself, but there is a satisfaction when I figure out the mystery, solve the puzzle or win the game by my own Witt.

I used to go to Fishing Rod making Seminars and teach and I enjoyed it. Did that for over 20 years.

That covers sharing very well. Like I said earlier, in my opinion, body of water (small ponds around xyz, or the name of larger lake or river), maybe launch site, tackle, fish type and time of year. Any thing else is on an individual based. Thanks Steve, good job. On the other hand, giving false info, unless really deserved, does not fit into my definition of respect, nor does it, in my opinion, enhance the value of this site. There are many good people including youngsters looking at this site as a way to get started.

That would be nothing but mean. I guess some people might think it's funny but, glad I'm not one of them. Why not just say you don't have any information instead of misleading people? I don't get it.

Surest and quickest way to lose your best fishing and hunting spots is to tell others where they are. I'll happily share everything I know with anyone in my inner circle. Everyone else gets the name of the lake or an area. Lost to many good spots over the years and there certainly is nothing wrong with encouraging someone to find their own honey holes. I'm a big fan of the give a man a fish, teach a man to fish, saying.

I am with you on that NoCal, I will tell lake, rigs, bait, everything but I do have a few special spots that I will not give out and see nothing wrong with that. I sleep good at night.

I've literally lost count of all the people I've tried to help out with info on fishin the Napa and Petaluma rivers.
Several I've taken them out personally and showed them how and where I catch fish.
Most all of them have at least gotten back to me and told me that they actually caught fish from my advice/info.
So I know what you mean Fred. It's nice when the people at least acknowledge and thank you for your help.

It's one of those "if the shoe fits, wear it. type posts. The shoe definitely does not fit you. Thank you so much for all the help you have given everyone. You are a ray of sunshine.

Thanks Bapa. That's nice of you to say. I just really like to help others when I can and love to help others be able to catch fish.
