The newer BG reels have a threaded handle that screws into the pinion gear. Just turn it in the opposite direction from reeling in. Hold the rotor firmly, don't over stress the antireverse.
Actually this applies to reels up to the 4000. I'm not positive about the 5000, sorry.

In the old days ('70s-'90s) Diawa used a screw that came through the pinion from the other side. My new BG 2500 screws right into the gear itself. According to my schematic, all the BGs up to the 4000 are the same. The larger models might be different.
You can download schematics directly from Diawa. Then you have a parts list as well, in case you need to replace any parts.
