Heading over to Headwaters in two weeks . Wondering how the fishing is currently and what baits to sling. Thx
Fished it a month ago caught quite a few on shiners I’d say the bite is better now we were there when cold front came through still a lot of fun and big fish

Hi,
I work for the FWC part time doing the creel surveys and the fishing has been very good. As others have mentioned, shiners are working and as I say they're the favorite "candy" of the bass. Of note, two anglers last week from NC fished Headwaters for the first time and caught a 12lb 3oz largemouth along with a couple more over 24 inches. Only 4-5 of their 36 fish were under 16 inches, all the rest were 16-24" or larger. They only used artificial lures. The fishing has been great, enjoy your trip!
Thanks Makaira ….any idea on the artificial baits used
Flukes, chatter baits, and speed worms, blue and white colors have been popular.
By the way, Headwaters is now catch and release on the bass. Good luck on your trip and maybe I'll run into you if I'm scheduled one of the days you'll be there.
