Hi guys,
I’ve been lurking in the background for awhile and now I need some advice.
I purchased a 10 ft kayak about 5 years back.Getting older so Last month I purchased a Trolling motor. Now I will have to register the kayak. I do not have the bill of sale or a title of any sort necessary to register in Florida.Has anybody else come across this problem and if so how was it resolved. Thanks in advance
good luck in fla
go ask dmv and when they tell ya how many hoops ya gotta jump thru. say screw it til some fw guy says elsewise
- smitty...no longer in fla
Thanks Smitty, I was just trying to know what to expect before waiting in line for half a day to register

hi hap
sorry to be a downer but had some issues in fla with that stuff. if you try to reg and if it was me i would bring it with me. see if u can find any id on it. they'll probably ask you for a hull # [ yeah happened 2 me]
bought it at a garage sale no papers. never got the motor mounted but if i did i would've just used it til some body said something. it was only 10ft didnt think reg mattered. hope somebody else here can be more help.
If you buy a boat under 16' from someone that does not have a title and never had a title or the boat has never been titled in the state of Florida, get a power of attorney form from your local tag agency and the seller has to sign it stating that to the best of his knowledge the boat has never been registered in the state of Florida and a bill of sale, with that you can get a title from the agency.. Should be the same way with your kayak that has never been registered. Hope this might help.
Does this only apply if you want to put a motor on it? My kayak is 20 years old and I have no paperwork.
Only if you put a motor, even a electric motor on then it must be registered. You can still get a title for it even if you don't want to put a motor on it...
Thanks guys. I’m not feeling very optimistic. I have an Ascend and a Lifetime kayak and no receipt for either. Can’t the state do a records search based on the serial numbers To verify that it hasn’t been reported stolen? Does anybody know what the potential repercussions are if I get pinched with no registration?
Does anyone know what I can expect if I am caught fishing with this kayak and have no registration? I am 74 years old so fishing license is not Required in Florida, my only concern is the boat registration?
stay in the skinny water where they cant get to you
dont fly the cuban flag
Smitty, I like your style. It must have something to do with a New England attitude. I’m from originally from NH (neighbor) and my outlook seems to align with yours.

hi hap
things are so much simpler up here. car and boat reg done rite at city hall in our little town phippsburg on the south side of bath. when we moved from fla my wife had all kinds of trouble just to get her dl when we moved from tx. long story shorter they wouldnt accept her bc cause it wasnt embossed. she got a passport and then they accepted that.
i can reg a car or boat or trailer with a hand written signed bill o sale. where you at in fla? i was in vero beach. left in 14 and the red tide was gettin bad then. and then there was the toxic green algae looked like yellow anti freeze. hope things are better 4u. tite lines. live free or ?
