Looking for some spots to fish this spring on the Vermilion river and the Illinois river. Preferably near Oglesby, Peru, or LaSalle. Ottawa would be fine also. I live in Oglesby Illinois.

Hey Gmack, welcome to the stage. Although I have never fished the area, I have heard very positive comments for the Spring Valley area on the Illinois River especially for Walleye and Sauger in the spring time. The only experience I have had was with the middle fork of the Vermilion back in the early 70's and the bank fishing was excellent on that stream in the Potomac Illinois area. Smallies, catfish, and google eye were my favorites to target back then.
I don't know if this helps but I would suggest you contact locals and some guides in the areas you wish to target and possibly do a day trip with someone who will go for what you are looking for.
Make sure you keep us updated and post some pics of your catchs for us to enjoy.

Welcome to the forum Gmack
May I suggest you try the power station in your area in the Spring when it opens. If you have a power boat thats great,if not you can still fish from shore. Large fish are found there every year. You won’t be sorry!

Its good to see someone on here from my area. I heard there is a walleye club gathering at one of the boat club this weekend. IOt is probably at the south Shore Boat club. Open to the public. I think it was a meal and prizes for $25 per person.
