Just went to check my boat in outside storage. It is covered and bungeed down. Part of the cover was holding about 30 gallons of water. I was able to bail it our and properly cover boat and adjust so hopefully it doesn't happen again but I didn't think it would happen in the first place.... Could have been worse!!

So please check for your own piece of mind!!!

Be sure to drain it completely also before you launch. A raised floor can conceal a lot of rainwater.

My friend went to move his 25 foot boat, and said he needed to air up the tires...not, he had water to the top of the sides, the inboard V-8 was toast...

Make sure there isn't something anchoring it down too so it floats when the storage area floods tomorrow. ...
Yeah, not really, but they say the Napa might flood with the rain coming tomorrow and Tuesday!
Been a long time since we've heard those warnings.

Always leave the plug out when on land.

If your bilge holds any water put some PET friendly anti freeze in it so the bilge pump and live well pumps won't break from freezing.

That qualifies as a real bummer. The advice that followed is probably etched in his brain now.

Um , if the boat was outside , was the plug still in ? Every time I take my boat out of the water , first thing I do is pull the plug . It’s second nature . Any water left in the bilge drains out on the drive home . The plug stays out until my next trip . Sorry to hear about your friends motor .

Can a boat sink on land? Yes it can just do not remove your plug or build a tent out of your boat cover so the rain drains off of the tent.

Great comments everyone! If your in a slip, in the water, hook up a float switch to your bilge pump and assure it has full time power. Still want to check on it though, not always full proof and lend themselves to failure. So far so good for me! Wish I had that in my rental unit……… 1 1/2’ of water flooded it New Year’s Day 😭

New Year’s Day, my rental property is directly through the “fire” guy. 14 units flooded that day, they evacuated everyone.

So sorry to hear that. My son woke me up in very early first day of 2000. I got out of bed a standing in three feet of water. Had just moved back to CA, Fairfax and we had a terrible flood. Was a heck of a way to wake up.

Thanks Ben! That year was the last time that area was flooded also. When I cut the sheetrock out I cut on the exact line it was cut from the 2000 flood, not on purpose, just happened. Hope you had Flood insurance back then……..
