I'm pretty sure Flytier has 1 or 2 smaller ones on his Surf rods. They always looked like top shelf to me, Rip, good luck if you decide to go for it.

I haven’t tried the Avet but I’ve heard they are good reels. For Tuna I use a Shimano 2 speed for jigging and also for free lining chunks while drifting. My favorite jigging set up is a Shimano Talica 16II on a Shimano Trevala 5’-8” rod. I use it exclusively for Black Fin and Red Snapper. The 16II is a fairly small reel. Shimano now makes them in larger sizes. 😎👍

I have 2 SX, 2 MX, and an LX.
They are great quality reels at a fair price. Made in USA by the Avet family.
Customer service and parts department is great. I replaced a set of bearings on my LX. Very simple. Used in San Diego for tuna, Mahi, Bonita, yellowtail, and rock fish. I highly recommend.

I can’t help you with tuna advice, but I use an Avet for deep sea fishing up to 300 feet on a Shimano TC3 rod blank. I can’t remember the model number but it no bigger than a bait caster. I have it loaded with 50 lb power pro with a flouro leader. I also use it for Stripers inshore. I love it!

I’ve used about every reel mentioned here. Avets are a good reel for the price. I like the accurate 2 speeds for tuna. I’ve used my Avets for dorado and yellowtail. And have caught schoolie tuna on them with no problem. Just match reel size with fish size you expect to catch and you’ll be good to go. The Raptor 2 speeds would be good to look at.

OK thanks. The Reelsking Open Face I have with 22 KG(44LB) drag would work good then. LOL I do have a Penn style that is 20 LB drag on a Boat rod. The other Spinning reels are old Diawa 7000A, 7700A reels at 20 LB. And an OLD Garcia Mitchel 406. Except for the first 2 posted all of the others go back to the 70's. When it works good I stay with it. LOl Of Course I do clean and re grease them.

I’ve never heard anything bad about them. Too expensive for me though.
