Thanks Hal, but the seal lion was schooling me that day. My lesson learned and adjustments made!
Yeah, I've dealt with those critters in Montezuma Slough. Not a fish to be found when one of those critters show up. Efficient preditors, and expert scavengers
Very, very nice!
Keep the pictures and text coming.
Merry Christmas

Thanks Stabi! I’ll do my best, going to take a week off or at least until the marine forecast improves. Happy Holidays!

Yup, but what ya gonna do………..
Man, those are some lovely crustaceans! Yum!
I have tried catching crabs in Bodega Bay from the jetty or shoreline using crab snares, but without much luck. When I showed up the last time on the jetty rocks, a sea lion swam up right in front of me, looked me in the eye and barked at me! I swear s/he said "Just toss me the bait now and go home!"
Later, I tried from the shoreline on the west side and a sea lion was patrolling that area all afternoon. When I reeled in my steel mesh snare, it was totally ripped apart and the bait was gone, of course. It's amazing what they can do with just flippers and some strong teeth! Fortunately, the nice guys at the Outdoor Pro Shop in Cotati replace the snare for free. But I think I need to find something a bit stronger for next time!

Thanks PCM! Those sea lions/seals are troublesome and smart. They know an easy meal when they see one and there’s not much you can do once they’ve got your number except move to where they ain’t. Good luck to you on future snaring!
