Used to catch blues in the Potomac during the summer, but that was a long time ago. Haven't caught a blue in years.
Now, as far as eating, I wouldn't beat my dog with a bluefish. But pound for pound they are a helluva fight!
Right lines and following seas!

Folks like what they like. Blues are a summer fish for the most part. But if you check some of the charter captains around the bay or Virginia Beach you may get some good info. Good luck man!

The world record bluefish was caught on Jan. 1, 1972, by James Hussey. Hussey was fishing at Hatteras Inlet in North Carolina, trolling plastic eels when a gigantic bluefish slammed his line. He fought the to-be world record for 15 minutes before hoisting it into the boat. Back at shore, the monster bluefish tipped the scales at 31 pounds and 2 ounces.

It's been a while since big bluefish have made routine appearances in the surf. Smaller blues certainly have shown up but the reduction in catch limits in 2019 from 15 to 3 are indicative of a general decline in population.

I like smaller Blues for eating. Their roe is also good.

Every one I ever tried was just too fishy. My dad smoked some once long ago. It was pretty good with cold beer, sharp cheese and football.
Some guys back in the early 70's went out of Chincoteague early one morning and headed for Winter Quarters shoal. Came back with a boatload of BIG blues. Barely room to walk on the deck!

I know right. Im thinking about going to pier this week but its gonna be a cold sob. I remember i caught the biggest bluefish i had ever seen. Tws was closed but my dad weighed it and it was 21lbs. It was so good.. it was real early in morning and we went from nags head to ocracoke.. we caught 14 that day . Well we pulled off i ran to the dune and told my parents to park. On the way to water a couple guys said we been here all morning not one bite. I looked at him and said you may wanna stay here. No birds diving, no bait jumping. Just passed the breakers. Well needless to say the guys jaw dropped. . I tell you what. My arm felt like it was gonna fall off. My Dad called it in 70s that the boats are gonna run them away. He said i doubt in my lifetime i will see that kind of fishing.

Over the years, bluefish have rescued many a surf fishing trip when striped bass refused my lures. The excitement of bluefish savaging a surface plug is etched into my memories. Releasing snapper blues so that they could grow to choppers was my introduction to conservation. In my opinion, they are wonderful gamefish that demand respect.

I agree i would rather eat that then any other fish. Not sure why all fishing reports are about some stupid tile fish and drum. I called a bait shop i asked he goes some trout and etc he gave me weight and size > asked him specifically about blues. He goes well there are other fish that are hot right now. I said i know i read and im calling because i cant find anything really on them. When you call or write can anyone answer a question. I dont care about any other fish i dont care about rockfish. Drum trought or pigsfeet, lol. You know its hard getting a straight answer when you call places wonder why

Smoked bluefish tasted better than smoked striped bass.
