My wife has never shown any internet in going fishing with me. We live on the north end of Wolf Bay, a back bay, in Elberta, AL, and I go quite often. Well she went to Round Top, TX with a friend a few weeks ago to attend that huge antique show, and stayed with her friend’s brother. A friend of brother has a large lake next door. They went fishing in the lake and she caught two bass, and now she is a fishing expert.

Yesterday a friend and I were going fishing in my boat, but he had to drop out at the last minute. She is a planner (does nothing without painstaking planing) and when I asked her to go I really had no idea she would. Well, to my surprise she enthusiastically said yes.

I have always heard taking a woman on a boat is bad luck. Not sure of that but had to charge the battery (fairly new and first charge needed) and for the first time in 20 years my motor was a little slow to crank. Finley pushed away from the dock about an hour late. Went about a mile and dropped anchor at one of my favorite spots. Didn’t catch anything but did enjoy the conversation and being out doors. Decided to move to a new spot and motor would not crank. Had the battery booster along and grand that down; still nothing. Started back home using the trolling motor when a kind soul came by and gave us a tow home.

I would never tell her I think she si bad luck, buttt? As a friend on the forum would put it, “Just sayin.”

As you might tell from the answers Wolf, wives are generally great fishin’ buddies! Bank or boat!

I wish my wife would go with me. I'd trade the fish for her any day.

Wow, lots of great responses. My submission was really done kinda “tongue in cheek.”

I will tell you a short story about my wife of 41 years. About a year after we were married I took her bream fishing. We pulled up to a tree top hanging into the water along the side of the lake. I started fishing in the tree top and was pulling fish regularly. I noticed she was fishing on the other side of the boat. I told her they were in the tree top and not in the open water. She said OK, but I am not getting hung up out here. I caught about 25 fish in that one spot to 4 or 5 for her. But she never complained.

Being a woman, and being the captain and the boat owner, I’d have to say No! 😂🎣

Your boat is old and just chose that day to stop working. Where in the scriptures does it say that we should believe in superstitions? The Lord taught us to have faith. Man-made thing breakdown. To me, superstitions are crazy and stupid for anyone to believe in them. God gave us women as a help meet and lucky is the man that has one he can love, live with and get along with.

Couldn’t say whether bad luck or not, but my wife encouraged me to buy my boat, has been out on it (to see The Blue Angels), but has zero interest in catching fish, (can’t stand to see anything being hurt and she’s a nurse, go figure) she loves to eat them though!

My wife and I won quite a few Walleye and Bass tourneys with her catching more than her half of the fish ! She

caught a world record Sand sturgeon and released it and then caught a bigger one that she weighed and entered.

She could back a boat better than any of my fishing friends and we could recover our boat and be off the ramp in under 2 minutes flat ! Never once thought about leaving her home !

My wife and I fish together all the time, she will bait her own hook if she is using artificial only, otherwise I have to bait her hook and remove the fish she catches. Couple of years ago finally got her to at least hold a fish. Oh well it is what it is. Love going with her and always a good time no matter if we catch or not. So, is bad luck to have a woman on board, I say no.

"You've always heard that", do you believe actually believe that? It's kind of weird blaming her for "luck", she could blame you for failing to check the battery. I have a brand new boat that's been out about a dozen times since July, but knowing we use the trolling motor more than the main motor, I was worried that more starting, fishfinder use, and live well action than running and charging with the alternator might have run the main battery down, and if I got my wife out and the engine didn't start she would sure as heck be blaming me, and using bad luck as an excuse would fly about as well as a brick...When I put it on the charger before we went out for a three day fishing trip it was charged and on float in less than an hour, which tells me it was in perfect shape as it should be, but better safe than sorry. Letting it get low and sit is really hard on the battery, they can get to where they don't hold nearly as good a charge as a new battery.

...just sayin, Lol

That painted a grim picture, a friend of mine was telling me about a woman on the pool league wanted to go fishing (his wife does not), I asked him if he was smoking crack thinking about taking a woman out fishing. I asked if his wife knew and he said hell no, I told him that was his answer about whether he should.

If I told my wife I was taking a woman out fishing I'm afraid that would be shot down in a heartbeat.
