don't think the ferry would have been to happy with you floating in front of them
Neither was I. I no longer have that boat. It always gave me trouble the first trip or two each year. After that it seemed to get over whatever problems it had. It was like handling a whale.
I think they were joking about the ship not moving, that being said, way to close for me. The wake from those big boys can swamp the bow.
I used to crew on a sailboat for races out of Des Moines years ago. We were instructed if situation like this occurred, it was permissible to motor out of the way without drawing a scratch for the race. Usually there was wind to keep us moving and I don't recall anytime that we had to motor out of the way. We had the Boeing Hydrofoil come zooming by a couple of times doing some test runs.
When a Trident Sub is escorted down the straits all questions about right of way are mute. If you are with in a quarter mile of the shipping lane. A fast boat with a 19 year old on the bow, that's holding on to a machine gun will come over to your boat and tell you move.
This will take place while the Sub is still close to a mile away.
We live in Sequim and have been down by Hood Canal Bridge with a nuke about to go thru. We were last car to go over the bridge. The WSP stopped all traffic, and everything was off the bridge. I would have liked to watch the sub go thru, but there was a lot of cars waiting to use the bridge.
At least there’s no fog and you could see it 👍
