Red Tide Fish Kill
Florida Fishing

For my Cape Coral, Ft. Myers, Sanibel friends. I was out yesterday at the large artificial reef a few miles due south of Sanibel, and WNW of Ft. Myers Beach when I came across a few hundred floating dead fish in dark, reddish water (I assume red tide). I wasn't fishing, just checking out the area. It appeared to be getting larger. I reported it to the Florida Authorities, just wanted to let this group know that it may be moving nearer shore depending on the winds and will have a bad impact on any fishing or boating plans in this area. Be careful out there, it isn't good to be breathing that stuff for too long, I left quickly after finding myself in the discolored water. Google red tide forecast before heading out (though it hasn't been updated in about a week, it didn't show the red tide I discovered). I also came across two floating pilings, but not much other debris. Be careful out there!

I monitor those two and I'm in MN. I just want to know what that nasty Crap is doing. I have seen it wipe fishing right out of an area for a number of years. They pick the dead fish up in trucks. It's an extreme health hazard. Stay away form that crap.

Well, it hit Sarasota first now it's nearshore around Sanibel and all the way down to Naples, just hope it stays away from our bay

They like it in that bay area. Good luck.
