New to Coastal Fishing, SoCal.
Hello everyone!!!
Have mostly fished rivers for Salmon/Steelhead. Now residing in Southern California. Looking to learn about accessibility to coastal fishing and how to’s. Have COPD so long journeys across sand aren’t practical. Locations for Pier Fishing and short distances on sand to surf fishing are currently what I’m most interested in learning about. As well as area specific baits, equipment and techniques. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration regarding my concerns.
TIGHT LINES FOR EVERYONE!
Welcome from Carlsbad. I’ve learned a lot by Googling and on YouTube.
Fisher Jeff, thank you. Feel free to recommend any links you’ve found helpful.
Mine are all about fishing for Halibut in San Diego Bay on a boat. So, not much help for you.
Try Shore Pounders, a San Diego based internet site and group of shorefishermen/women Also SD fish. Com.
Pick up a book by Bill Varney. It talks all about surf fishing. He will talk about reading the surf to find holes, troughs, structure
to fish around. Bait and what setup to use for each situation. You can find it in your local bait store. Its fun.

Use to fish it alot off the rock's you can catch Calico bass , Sand Bass , Sand Dabs and once in a while a legal size Halibut.
Get you bait at bait shop by Newport Bch. Pear.
And fish it also.
Good luck
Some times you will catch Mackel and Bonita
Welcome to the Stage Salmon King. Looks like you’re in the HB area. You may have success fishing around Bolsa Chica. With your COPD, there are parking areas for easy beach access. Pier fishing leaves much to be desired, but good for getting out to wet a line. Best Wishes.
Thank you ALL for the helpful comments. I got Ken Jones’s and Bill Barney’s books and am acquiring some relevant tackle. I’ll be reading and hopefully out there soon!
