On this Veterans Day weekend, I am reaching out to our Vets who might have served with my father during WWII.
He would never talk about his service and I have always wanted to know about this time in his life. I have always been left to try and imagine what it was like for him…
He passed away a few years ago and I am trying to fill in some of the “gaps” in understanding the things that shaped his life.
If any of you have direct information or places you could direct me, I would be indebted.
His name was Randolph “Cotton” Walthall. He served as a Staff Sargent in Company C 435th Medical Ambulance Battalion. He was on Oahu from 1943 to 1946.

I am not a veteran, but I did check with some of my friends with no success with your father's name.
My uncle and a cousin both were in WW11. Neither of them ever talked about what happened. I think from any army movies you can imagine what they experienced in person.
I also had a friend who was a Vietnam Vet. I never asked him anything about the war no matter whether we were working or just hanging out. After several years and several beers, he described some of the things he had been through on the basis that I never would mention it to anyone in the family or anyone we knew. He's gone now, and I sure do miss him.
