I would share an observation and ask a question. Since joining the Stage my fishing has changed considerably in that I don’t just fish for trout anymore. Many of you are bass fishermen/women. I have noticed in your stories and pictures that there seems to be a feeling of sadness if bigger fish aren’t caught. So my question, Does a day on the water of catching “dinks” detract from the fishing experience??
From my perspective the fishing is always great. Catching anything is just a bonus regardless of the size.
No
I am not known for bring in limits. But I do enjoy be out on the water and enjoying nature!!!
The big secret is if you don’t catch anything you don’t have to clean anything

I like to catch larger bass but also appreciate when smaller ones bite.
I love the dinks, they taste better and here in the south they don't haven't had time to absorb as much mercury in them as the larger fish. If you position them just right amonst the others in the photos, you really don't see them. your eyes immediatly go to the larger ones in the photo. I had an uncle in law that showed me how to cook a 2-3 inch bream so crispy you can eat the bones. If you can find my last post you will see sone dinks hidden in there.

Big M.... here on the Stage we 100% only support and advocate legal fishing techniques and harvesting. Is there a minimum size limit for Bass in AL?

Well, since you ask. NO. I don't keep dink bass anyway, but I will keep one in the 10-12" range if he is fat and healthy. Do you really think I would be stupid enough to post illegal activity online to a bunch of nosy well wishers. We have so many bass here you can keep 10 black or spotted bass per day, 2 walleye, 5 sauger, 15 yellow bass, 15 white bass, 15 stiped or hybrids, 30 sacalait, 50 bream, no limit on yellow perch, or catfish. THAT IS PER DAY. There are size limits on a few of the state lakes. They told us to quit using dynamite and telephones in the 30's. Any more rules you want to know about?

There's a lot more small ones than ig ones. They keep you from getting bored .

Hi, I’m stuco. I’m a nosy well wisher who’s totally full of it and completely devoid of wisdom…

I’ve always enjoyed being near the water fishing or out in a boat fishing. I’ve caught two limits of Crappie wulffy. That’s 25 Crappie per limit. After the second time, as I was cleaning them, I realized I didn’t need to limit out out. All I needed was enough to have a nice fish fry and I’d release anything past ten fish. I guess I was so used to tournament fishing where limiting out with the biggest and best is normal. Besides, I have more time to look at my surroundings and take it all in. I’m getting old now and I’m glad I’m not too late to smell the roses 🌹.
