Hi everyone. I've enjoyed your pics and info you are sharing on fishing. I've been kayak fishing off and on for the last 10yrs. I love catching crappie and bass and just bought my 1st electric fillet knife after catching a 5# bass last week. Happy fishing to you all. Looking forward to seeing your catches and learning from you.

Welcome aboard Carol. What kind of rod and reel do you use?

Sorry, I've been offline for a while, but, thanks for the welcome. Because I use a kayak, I try to use very light rod and reel. I mostly use a Walmart combo I order online. It's a 4'8" ultra light action ugly stik that holds 2-6#line. The reel that comes with it is a Shakespeare that has a 5.2:1 gear ratio. I find it easy to cast and I've caught up to 5# bass, 24" catfish and my favorite fish which is crappie. My cooler in my kayak doesn't hold anything much bigger than that. It's not a fishing kayak and I don't have a fish finder so I try to keep everything lightweight so the paddling to find fish is easier. The kayak is a 10ft Perception with an open cockpit.
