Caught a yellow bullhead and 4 common carp with ShopRite canned whole kernel corn on a #4 long shank gold hook and 4 and 12 lb test line in the 61 degree Millstone River this evening during a nor’easter. Caught the first two and biggest carp with my Mitchell Avocet ultralight spinning outfit. Landed 86 carp this year.

Must be a good fight with that set-up. Might be the picture but our carp out here seen to be more yellow with larger tails. Fish on.

I think that most of the carp that I catch are males which are darker than the females. When it’s sunny, carp usually won’t hit on my 12 lb test outfit but I catch them on my 4 lb test ultralight. After sunset I usually use 12 lb test. I don’t catch many big carp anymore. Mirror, leatherback and linear common carp are very rare in all of my spots.

Have you ever caught a Mirror carp? Don't even know if we have them out here but would really like to catch one. Yesterday caught a carp that I think I caught a few months before, had the same odd scar on its side. Thanks for posting your carp fishing.

Some of the > 5,000 carp that I caught in NJ were mirror, leatherback, linear, grass, koi and goldfish. I caught and released an Eastern Creek Chubsucker bigger than the all tackle world record this year.

1 caught one feral goldfish this year, 1 Chubsucker and 1 mirror. The Delaware River has a variety of carp but I no longer fish there because the Duck Island power plant closed.

over the years i learned quite a bit about carp fishing(been fishing sense 5 th grade) i am now 85 so i have caught quite a few up to 20 lbs when you know what to do and when its easy. to chum up carp go to the same spot for 3 or 4 days and throw corn any vegetable matter in the water after that sneak back and throw some more in with your line in the middle of it and hang on also fish under mulberry trees when they fall in the water as well as wild cherries if you fish in slightly salt water use grass shrimp carp will also go for worm found on mud banks they love them. when you hook a carp what they do is run for tree roots brush or trees in the water trying to get away(i call them brush bullets) when fishing under trees as i mentioned when you set the hook they run for the bushes to over come this when you set the hook and open the bail right away the carp wont know what going and will swim away towards deep water slowly when he gets away from bushes close the bail let him take up the slack and he will fight normal without heading for cover i have used water melon tomatoes berries cherries any fruit or vegetables will do when fishing under trees use split shot instead of sinkers sounds more like berries dropping into the water hope all this helps togman

Out here we can't chum so makes it a little harder. I use a oatmeal pack bait that works well. Good to see someone else talking about carp fishing and giving good advice. Thanks.
