Hi, I’m interested in fly fishing for Steelhead on the central California coastal rivers and streams and need help. I would like to fish the beach where the stream breaks out through the sand and into the ocean. Where are the legal waters and names please?

Welcome to the stage Elder. Sorry I'm not familiar with the rivers down that way. Hopefully somebody will chime in soon with the info you need. Good luck and post pics.
I would suggest that if you're really wanting to target steelhead that you hire yourself a guide and learn how and where. Lots of rules and regs and steelhead aren't like most other fish, locating them is the tough part, once you find them the catching's pretty easy. You may have to get out your luggage and travel north.
I'm not familiar with the coast down your way but fish are fish...
Here's my tip. Look for a stream where the channel to the ocean doesn't open up until the 1st couple of heavy rains. Then fish the surf from a couple of weeks before it normally opens until the fishing slows. The steelhead will stack up close to the mouth waiting for it to open up.

I would consider heading north to the Chetco River just over the Oregon state line. Regs are entirely different. Smith is also a great option. San Luis Obispo creek will have some nice fish as well up higher but keeping anything is out of the question. Stripers can be had as well!

Thank you Relliott59. I will be fishing closer to home until next steelhead season up in the Trinity River and into Oregon. I’ll try the Cherco River then. In central coast California, you can only fish between 101 and the ocean. All barbless and release. It all about the experience and joy of fishing.
