I don’t get anywhere near the mouth of the Sheepshead we catch in Galveston bay. I cut the line near the mouth. The hook is totaled anyway. It’s an ugly sucker too.

You used to be able to dig them but people were tearing up marshes so it is not allowed everywhere. Their are probably ways to bait them up.

We used to catch some in the marsh around my marina. They had an algae or moss on their backs, like Rock Crabs do. The store bought Fiddlers had a clean, lighter colored shell. Probably from further south. The lighter colored ones worked better for bait.

Thank for the response. Just to let you know I caught two Tautog (Blackfish) using a Carolina (Fish finder) rig with a 2 oz weight with one inch sand flees on a 4/0 long shank hook. Caught them in the Ocean City Md inlet off the shore. Michael. Hope to start snagging some strippers in the next few days.
