Greetings all!
I’m originally from The Garden State and am familiar with their way of salt water fishing for different species. Here in Florida I see that there are different ways. I am targeting flounder ( fluke) and sea trout (weakfish). I have tried drift fishing, like I did in Jersey but find the current very fast. I’ve been told that I need to anchor and cast with a slow retrieve. This has produced a lot of frustration. Any tips for fishing the Ponce Inlet area would be greatly appreciated.

I cast and slow retrieve all the time for flounder from the surf in NJ. Try it from the boat. The fish usually face into the current laying on the bottom.
Thank you Flyer. I must be doing it too fast. I haven’t gotten accustomed to the Florida Ways yet!
Mike
Drift anchors slow the drift of your boat.tey local newspaper fishing reports as well as local radio and TV fishing reports. Try Woods and Water magazine.

For flounder and trout I'd fish the grassflats in Mosquito Lagoon......the inlet for monster Reds and Snook

Mike: I'm on the West Coast (Tampa Bay) and have been able to catch a few spotted trout, drifting slowly over grass flats (about 4' of water) using live shrimp weighted with only split-shot under a float about 3'. I too would like any advice anyone would like to offer. Regards, Jim C.
I've been here in Florida for about 400days
I been successful catching Sea Trout (no weekfish we have 2 kinds of seatrout )
Fishing grass flats either off the trolling motor or drifting.
The white zman swim bait and the salt strong slam shady baits on a jig head just cast and a straight retrieve. I've landed over 100 with this set up.
Good luck hope this helps.
Thank you Secundo. I know about drift anchors, but just haven’t purchased one as yet. Something I will look into

Sinker Rig,
Thank you. Idon’t trailer so Mesquito Lagoon is a bit of a distance, and with price of gas trying to stay close to home.

AnimalHouse,
Sounds like my house: 3 Old English Sheepdogs, a Greenwing Macaw, Mulucan Cockatoo, and 2 African Grays. East coast in the Halifax River and the back waters we have a lot of oyster beds. I just have to hope that some local locals read my post.
Thanks for the advice.

I am also from the RI area and fish and mated on a six pack boat when I moved to Florida I thought I was a fairly good fisherman , was I in for a surprise it’s all different but it will come with time. I m not a inshore fisherman but my neighbors on the canal are they use a popping cork with live shrimp and use light jig head maybe 1/4 to 1/2 oz with gulp and they all drift the grass flats they do very well on trout and mackerel when there around. Hope this helps . Joe
Thanks Joe. I too worked on a head boat out of Jersey back in the day. I haven’t found any grass in this area, just oyster beds. I also have some bridges to get sheepshead

Knocker rig or a fish finder rig with live shrimp or white bait
