Hey guys, I know we all kinda like fishing 😏, but what other hobbies take up your non-on the rod time?
Me? I have many, but my favorite is RockHounding and Dremel tool polishing the finds. If you haven't heard of RockHounding, it is basically glorified shiny/valuable rock, mineral and gemstone collecting. It is actually very sciencey, teaching yourself to be a journeyman geologist, but once you get started it's hard to stop. Items people hunt after too ground items including fossils, geodes, crystal shards and the hardcore dig for seams of more rare gemstone quality specimens.
I prefer creek/river walking to look for various different types of jaspers, agates, quartzites, flints and semiprecious stones like carnelian and garnet. (That way I can fish and hunt at the same time, win win!)
At one time I had hand collected and cleaned/rough polished upwards of 800 lbs of specimens and made a whole garden out of it. Thankfully, I successfully sold the whole lot to another collector before I moved from my rental house to a two bedroom apartment.
After I collect my rocks, they go through a lengthy cleaning process and some I polish with diamond tip dremel bits. Mostly I clean them up enough for my taste, but I have actually sold quite a few larger pieces to lapidary artists so they can cut them into cabochons or knap them into specialty items.
I will attach some pictures of my favorites but I am interested in everyone's 'other than fishing' or hobbies.

Some very beautiful pieces, Jess. I'm a retired rod crafter.
My first passion in life is surfing! I’ve been surfing for over 40 years and have traveled extensively and lived abroad chasing down waves. I’ve been fishing ( salt & freshwater ) almost as long as surfing. I never go on a surf trip without a rod, reel, and small tackle box in my board bag. I’ll be turning 50 this April and have noticed that I surf less and fish more. I’ll surf as long as I can walk but my love for fishing is beginning to take precedence. 🏄🏼♂️🎣
Tying flies, tying up spinner rigs, organizing tackle, lubing reels, etc.
Cooking, baking, gardening, woodworking. I really like to create things and the woodworking gives trees a second life. Beautiful stones there Jess. One can tell you are not only seriously into it but good at it as well.

Put another plate on Oz, I'm just walking out the door.
Het Jess A, wasn't there a show a few years back I believe on the History channel referencing rock collection? I can relate what you do if that is what I remember it being. See it wasn't always the Hallmark station, that's seasonable.
As far as interest other than fishing its reading David Baldacci books, cooking since the wife had dinner on the table when I came home and now I get to joyfully return the favor. Occasionally let the grandkids use me for a punching bag, tinkering around the house fixing things and wake up every morning Thanking the Lord for another day.
