A little more info would help, it may just depend on what you are fishing for.

I once thought the same when i was getting more into fishing. However i soon learned each species require different techniques and somewhat different baits at times.
Not knowing what species are in your area i and others could give a whole lot of useless info. Would be to your advantage to research or wait for a reply mentioning what is in your waters. Then the tips and years of experience from some folks would come about.

The bridge provides lots of whiting as does the shore. There are many "locals" who fish the bridge. I'm sure that they are a helpful bunch so just ask. In lieu of casting way out from the bridge try dropping a bait as close to the pilings as you can. I like the surf around the corner better than the outlet/river itself. In the surf, you can read the waves to help determine the structure. There is not much you can do but blind cast into the river. There is a bait shop just north of the bridge "On Line Bait and Tackle" that can offer some advice as well. Tight Lines.
