Wow, what a great "VIDEO" and job. This reminds me of a book I read "The Boys in The Boat". This is a book about the craftsman who made racing rowing SCULLS for the University of Washington and the boys who rowed them. He used Western Red Cedar and do to his craftsmanship made the fastest out there and were sought by many. It is about the boys who rowed them and their life. They went up against the worlds best teams in the 1936 Berlin Olympics (Japan, Germany, Italy) where Hitler's Nazis where trying to show-case his supreme Aryan race he called superior to all others. Washington had the best record in the world and even though one of their main rowers was rowing sick and even though Washington was put unfairly in the worst lane to stack the odds against them, if you will, they managed to WIN! It is a great read, I highly recommend it!

Tell your BIL and nephew what a beautiful canoe they built. What an accomplishment in 3 weeks. I built a strip kayak from scratch using my table saw, router table, and planer to make the cedar strips but I took three years to complete the boat. It was very satisfying for me the day I launched it for the first time. I, like them love working with wood. Here are some photos of my kayak😎👍

Really great job, both of you.

That is impressive also. Great work. It looks like a fish photo bombed the picture of the kayak on the bank.

Great craftmanship! Thanks for sharing pics. Way out of my league, but would be fun to take it to the boundry water. How heavy did it end up weighing?

Yes, that’s very nice Redfish I caught that day. I’ve since bought me a sit on top kayak just for fishing. The wood boat is fun to paddle and explore areas but it’s kinda hard to fish out of. I’ve promised it to my daughter when it’s my time to give it up. I think she will hang it on her wall. I built it to paddle and not just hang around but by then I won’t have a say about it 😎👍

The two of them hoisted it up on the truck easily.

From the stories I heard. Best to think about it than try. I’ll be happy enjoying the video. They built it in Maine. I probably will never be in it. Expect to see videos of its adventures.

Beautiful job on the canoe build! Your Brother-in-law and Nephew should be commended for their hard work and artistic ability 👍. I’d be lucky to get the frame pit up used to build the canoe on top of 🫤 Sure hope they have years of enjoyment fishing with family and friends!

You are correct. It is quite an undertaking to just get the frame mounted and solid.
