I have basically the same setup as salmon attic. I run mine off 2 12 volt batteries
( inline) can’t remember if that is series or parallel but makes one longer lasting 12 volt and like it.. would have had to replace everything to go to24 volt.

Thanks all for your comments, been some pro-con on Minn Kota so far,but mostly in reference to 24 volt motors,as my boat is only 16' aluminum and weight is a big influence. Running off lithium batteries is gonna be a must but I wish to stay with 12 volt and so far the Motorguide Xi3-Xi5 55lbs thrust is winning the vote due to better battery life and simple to operate remote functions. I have yet to actually decide and finding a motor in stock is definitely playing a part in that.Hopefully more comments on Motorguide motors will be posted for a better comparison. Any how still hunting and again thanks for any info that may help me decide.

Consider your electronics, current or future.
Buy for the future is best.
I run a 24 v ulterra and love it ( fresh water)
The boat came w a lowr. Hds gen 3.
Needed a bow unit for walleye.
24 v works great and can head up River in the Col for snags w it.
You can use a Minkota and hook it up w 2d sonar to a lowrance but I’m in a pickle if I want a hummingbird elite fa for the live or charting functionability.
Best deals come at winter sports shows- sportsman’s whse booth was 10% off and gifted coupons for store.
discounts.

Well I made my decision, found the Motorguide Xi3 55sw with gps and wireless remote on Amazon, 54"shaft and 12 volt,
55 lbs is enough thrust for my needs,Gps allows me to upgrade my depth/fish finder,12 volts allows me to keep my chaging system and when I switch to lithium batteries I can stay within my boats weight limits and still be able to fish with a friend.Should I ever decide to get a bigger boat then I'll deal wit getting bigger/badder setup, more options but until then sometimes Keep It Simple Stupid is just right.

Good luck. I don't think you can go wrong with your decision. It's got to be better than what you have.
Hopefully your fishing enjoyment will improve.
