Just found this forum and hoping to hear from like-minded anglers. Love to fish, but did not make time for it while working. Now retired and love fishing with my grandkids (and without them!). Finally picked up my fly-rod and experimented in local lakes...what fun! Looking for lakes, ponds, streams in Omaha area to fish for any kind of fish...with focus on fly-fishing.

Welcome to the Forum, hubrexk. We have a lot of fly fishers on here. Just ask what you want to know.

Thanks Flyguy. One question that comes to mind is ... in the heat of the summer, is it foolish to fish with surface flies? I've been using a black popper fly and caught a couple bass yesterday, but unclear if that was just dumb luck. :-)

Thers plenty of bugs around. I was using up some past prime worms today with my ultralite on bluegills. Caught about a dozen fish. Fir your question though, the was some kind of hatch coming off in the middle of the pond. Saw multiple rises to emerhwrs as well as purple Martin's skimming and in one case landing in the water going in for the new adults coming off the water. It was really funny watching the Martin that e did up in the water. They aren't ducks, the don't float up high so he had trouble trying to get Irbirne again. The bird Ctually had to fly/swim to shire before it could get into the air again. I was waiting for one of the bigger bass to come along and eat it.

Try Praire Wind west of Bennington, the weeds are out from the shore line. Easy to fish off the dikes. My preferred method is using a float tube but fly fishing off the dikes works. Favorite flies is both black ice chenille and purple ice chenille woollies.

Can't find Prairie Wind. Do you mean Prairie View? Will check it out. Thanks.
