I had power pro on all my charter gear and my own personal gear. Over time, I have switched everything out to Sufix 832 Hi Vis neon lime except for one reel and 80# plus reels. It is quiet and smooth. I used that one reel a few days ago. I am changing it out as well before I take it out. I cursed that cheaper braid all day. It does not even run off my Shimano Stradic smoothly when dropping strait down 50 feet to jig for sole and sand dabs, much less 100 ft. to jig for salmon. I use 30# in all my reels except the 80+# stuff and my pitching rig.

Reasoning:

1. Not that much noticeable difference between the lines when fishing over 80# test and visibility is not an issue when fishing halibut and sturgeon, so I use power pro which is a lot cheaper.

2. Sufix neon lime is very visible and does not fade much.

3. Sufix 30# holds knots well

4. Sufix 30# casts very well.

5. Sufix 30# is as heavy as I will ever need for most types of fishing.

6. Anything lighter than 30# wind knots easy and I can't see smaller line to tie knots with my fading eye sight and
clumsy hands.

7. Sufix 30# ties easy to mono or carbon leaders from 4# to 40# with uni to uni knots.

Exception: I have one reel with 50# Sufix that I use for pitching and flipping. No leader used with this rig.

Note: braid does not deteriorate like mono and floro, so save yourself some money when you feel a need to change line. Just flip your line end for end and you are good to go.

Caution: All my advice does not apply to pro tournament fishermen. For them, every second and every foot of cast distance can mean the difference between winning and losing. Theirs is a different game entirely, justifying $1000+ rods and reels, new and different weight lines every tournament, $5000 electronics and $200,000 bass boats or $2,000,000 off shore boats.

I have used braided line since it came out. Wouldn't think, of using mono or anything else since that time. The best is Power Pro and the worst is Spiderwire. (MHO) I always use an FC leader. Good luck, and tight lines, Whitey. Let us know what you think of it.

I'm with flyguy! That is all I use. My 6# braid is the size of 2#, very hard to see, yet spools up nice and use it on one of my fly rods. You do need special cutters to cut the line, and that also will keep the fish with teeth cutting it. I also agree that spiderwire....bad, Power Pro....good. LOL

I have not heard from Whitney about the smallest braid test, he might use. If you get to 10# test or lower, you should look at Suffix NANOBRAID. I've had great results with it down to 2# test. It casts a mile and is much stronger than what it is rated. The small diameter gets more bites and will test your skill at landing larger fish.

Power pro. All braids color fade but fish don’t mind. I bass fish, and usually use 30# p.p. with my topwater rods.

Chuck, It isn't about the fish seeing the line. Its about the fisherman seeing the line. I agree with you. The fish don't much care about which color the line is

That’s what I use also with top water stuff. It’s nice to pull hard to keep their heads up from diving straight down into the weeds and still have the casting ability.

Braided line has been around a lot longer than most people think! Before it was called braid,….it was called squidding line and it was clearly braided line… of course it wasn’t as advanced as it is today… there many brands to choose from… some I don’t favour….like the one from third world countries… stay far away from those …. Do some research and buy what you really want and need… you can find most anything you want to know from YouTube…!

Fire line is the shit…! I have it on all of my reels … all conventional… surf casters, bait casters, big lever drag reels.. backing for my fly reels as well shooting line because shooting line only come in 100 feet spools…some saltwater fly reels take a whole lot of backing… you don’t ever want to get spooled on a fly reel…lol 👍😎🤙🙃😂🤗

That's funny, I have always used Spiderwire with no problems. Why is Power Pro better? Just asking, have plenty of line but always open to using something better.

I can remember when braid meant braided Dacron for deep sea fishing because it didn’t stretch like mono. I warped more than one spool on a Penn 49 narrow spool from mono!

Hey, Flyguy, you've been around a while as I have, but I really wonder if the Fluro or Mono leader makes a difference at all. I've been fishing straight 20 lb Braided for up to 10 years in the semi tainted waters of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Ontario, and Manitoba and see no difference in my catch vs the other guys fishing mono or Fluro leaders. And, that's even fishing the crystal clear waters of some of the deeper Canadian Lakes for Lake Trout.
I wonder if others who use straight Braided have any comments as well as those who use the clear leaders.

Bapa have you compared power pro super slick to suffix. I have one spool of ea. Rest still power pro 👍

No I have not. Have you? If so which do you find better and why. I am not rally concerned about the price difference given the life expectancy of braid. I like the visibility of Sufix lime in all light conditions. That is why I tried it originally. I am always open to change if I see an advantage. Thanks for asking.
