New to the area. Have fished all my life. I’m 78 and going to teach my great grandson. He’s 8 and I’m 78. What a combo.

Welcome to the stage John and Gatlin. Panfish like bluegill is what I learned catching. Worm under a bobber or minnow Hooked through the bottom lip and out the nostrils with a Aberdeen hook under a Bobber for crappie. Adjust the hook under the Bobber till you find the right depth. Good luck guys an share your pics 👍

J & G, Welcome! I am nearby. Do you use a boat or Bank fish? If boat, I have had tackle destroyed on the river just in front of the state capitol by a vicious attack bite! If bank, check out the several city parks that feature fishing. Not much knowledge on them but I know folks do catch fish in them.
There are two prime lakes within about 2 hour drive and bank or boat are possible. Tight lines!

Welcome fellow Missourians!!
Jefferson City puts you right outside the Lake of the Ozarks. Busy place to fish, but lots to catch. Not familiar with your area specifically, but the Missouri River runs right through the city. I would hit some local bait and tackle stores and get advice on safe banks to fish from and tackle for river action.
Good luck, and looking forward to some pictures.
Check the many Strip Pits in the area. Finger Lakes I believe are old Strip Pits use to open mine for coal back in the day and are now filled with water and many fish. You may have to hike a bit to find one that is not fished out, but that's part of the sport of fishing.
Welcome and enjoy the fishing 👏
