The North Face coat that I've had for close to 15 years is starting to crap out on me, so I'm in the market for a new coat that'll keep me warm on the ice when it's 5-25°F.
You guys have any recommendations?

That’s not crapping out. 15 years is just wear at that point.

Alright, that's fair. Still need a new coat though, lol

In Mn here, I survive our winters with a Caterpillar men's heavy parka. It showed up as a good budget option on a list of warmest winter jackets during some google research and has served me well for around $80 off amazon. Tons of pockets, removable hood, blah blah... I'm good to go with that one anyway, happy hunting!

I actually saw that parka while doing some research. How has it held up for you? Any issues with the stitching coming apart?

Yeah I took the gamble after seeing some reviews with issues but there's always that chance when ya order online. If you can find one in a store you're probably going to feel safer but mine has been fine. A couple threads here and there that could be patted down with a dot of sewing glue but no major failures.

It's tough to beat Carhart
I don't ice fish. Long ago when I's in the Navy we went on cold weather ops with the SEALs. Those guys are not bound to government issue. They get whatever they want. They bought Eddie Bauer down parkas. I somehow managed to get my hands on one. Alaska in January, I never got cold. Still have the parka.
Check out floating parkas like ice armor or other brands . I have Anorak full suit a little bulky but warm and it floats you never know you can u-tube them peace of mind is worth it.
Try Carhart - they have great but $$$$.
I agree with spiritof27. An Eddie Bauer down coat is hard to beat including the cost. A -25 Degree rated coat is only around $170.00 and has high reviews. I am going to order mine tomorrow.
Look at the Striker offers not only very warm, lots of pockets, etc but they will keep you afloat if you fall thru the ice. Never think that can happen to you? I didnt either but at 77 it did happen.
