Hey Jwid, not sure our qest coast largemouth watch Nascar but fickle fish is why we keep coming back. I have braid on my reels so I would think a leader would be necessary, I use 4-6' of 8 lb fluorocarbon.
It sure is cookin' in the southwest and I ended up at Urgent Care after playing golf with some buddies at 7:45 and got really got sick from heat exhaustion around 10:30.
Fished Havasu Wed and Thurs in my kayak and that probably started it. At 69 I need to be more careful. Better now and a nap will fix me up!

I have been considering trying leaders, but have a bit of success tying braid directly. I have low vis gray and green on my baitcasters and white and yellow on my spinning reels. Not sure it would be worth the effort.

I found some type of loop knot that is very simple and really strong to tie two lines together.

Yes. I have been using it. A loop wrapped 10 times around the line and the line fed through the loop. Bass pro using it to load braid to mono when spooling up line for customers.
