I've never given a second thought on what a day of fishing costs, but with prices going up on everything I decided to do a cost breakdown. I surf fish in the Gulf and don't have a boat. So, if you use a boat, factor in gas/oil, launching fees and related expenses.

Gas for round trip to the beach - $ 14.00
Live shrimp , fish bites, - $ 8.00 ( avg cost, including fresh dead shrimp)
Admittance fee to county beach - $ 5.00 ($ 10.00 for non Vets.)
Hardware - $ 5.00 (avg cost for that lost sinker, lure, leaders, hooks etc.)
Snacks/ beverage - $ 6.00 (water sandwich and trail mix, No beer)
TOTAL $ 38.00
I still don't give cost a second thought! When it's time to fish, I just go!

So, what's your average cost for a day on the water?
I've never given a second thought on what a day of... (show quote)

I spend about $26 on gas and $6 on bait (worms and powerbait. Electric trolling motor on my inflateable pontoon charged by solar panel and I usually take cold pizza (breakfast/lunch of champions) for lunch that's warmed by the sun on the dashboard of the truck. I sometimes take a friend along and they share the cost of fuel (around $10 or so). I tie my own flys and snell my own hooks that I seldom lose.
I usually bring home enough fish for my wife and I for two dinners (although lately Iv'e come home with nothing...Grrr). So it's not too expensive. Besides, it's good to be outdoors and still costs less than almost any other entertainment (that's what I tell my wife...lol).

I have a boat but the way I fish my thang in NC. My boat is a 1984 16ft Glass Sylvania with a 50 Mercy outboard. The $40 in the 4x4 truck take a gallon to reach my honey hole and launch and I cast net for bait shad, small bluegill for free. Boat tank 8 gallon $40 and have you seen the prices of frozen fish at Walmart? $45 for less than 5lbs and a fourth of that is water. I can camp out in my trailer and fish until I've caught several fish fries and what I get is far more fantastic tasting fish! Channel catfish fillets, a nice mess of crappie fillets, we make homemade hush puppies, coleslaw, potato salad and eat like freaking king's! You go to Mayflower and spend $100 for just you and wife? It's worth it to go catch my own and it's a thrill to me and I always share some of my catches with people who don't have my mojo know how on catfish.

Here's one for a simple slaw, shred some cabbage, throw in some shredded carrots and chopped onions. Teaspoon of celery seed. Couple of good grinds of black pepper. Salt to taste. 1/2 cup each of sugar, water and white vinegar. Mix it all together, let it chill and enjoy.
Can't help you with hushpuppies. I'm sure someone makes a mix you can buy.

Pup's thick cornmeal about half a cup, not too wet/ more on dry side, so it can roll off a spoon using two spoons, grated sweet onions, and half tablespoon of sugar 1/4 cup butter milk, garlic powder, mix ingredients dry first, then one egg mix to moisten and let stand 10 minutes, then Deep fry 375° until the cooking side of puppies is golden brown, roll over 2 to 4 minutes and lay on paper towel to drain oil.

Well, when I was at the Nor Cal M&G at Clearlake,In the first 15 minutes on the water it cost me $30 as I dropped my braid cutters overboard, and I’d say about another $15-$20 in gear from all the snags, still better than work tho

I buy bulk spools of line instead of smaller ones to reduce cost 1000-3000 yard spools of trilene XT green. I store them in a cool place out of the sunlight. As for fluorocarbon I only spool it for tournaments. As for braid me and a friend buy larger spools together and split the cost. As for copolymer line I only use it for top water.

Reminds me of a friend of mine, every year the local bar ( Frontier Club) would charter a fishing boat out of Monterey. The Wave leatherman just came out not sure the price around 60 or 80 $$ lots of money back then, you guess it he was showing off his new leatherman and over the railing it went. Years later still tease him about it.
