I know this has been beat to death, but I have two abu c3 casting reels mounted on 13 foot heavy rods. I am using 35 pound mono. I cant seem to get the distance I would like. Would a change to braid give me any advantage. I throw 3 oz weight right now. You guys that use braid on casters, what is your experiance???

I assume your using your rod for surf casting….I looked at the abu C3’s on line and all I saw had level winds….if that’s the case with your reels it will reduce your casting distance …I use a abu blue yonder…no level wind…have it spooled with 20lb mono and 30# braid for back up…use a 50# shock leader on the front end….it’s mounted on a st croix mojo surf 11’ casting rod rated for 3-8oz weight….normally cast 4-6 oz sinkers off the beach and get decent distance…6oz is it’s sweet spot..the birds nest’s in braid are a treat to get out so that’s why I use the mono on top!!
There’s a guy on utube that has videos on using a conventional reel and he uses a piece of surgical tubing to hold the spool when casting…I’ve started using that and helps with the release when throwing heavy loads…

So far.....bought some made in japan X8 line. It is slick as a waxed speedboat. Still using my 12 foot heavy. Gave it a run this morning. Drag and braking minimum. Great results. Cast where I expected and no backlash or issues. The only thing, I had a huge hit and off he went. I thought he was gonna get my line to the end but when I tried to turn, he got off. Turns out he straightened my #2 hook. Oh well. Anyway thanks for all the help and comments.
