I didn't want to, but another cost. My trolling motor went out the last time I went out. The magic of looking for a low cost to do the job, failed. After finding the one I'm getting, not really the one I want, but ok. The unit is for fresh water only, I wanted salt water, but most of them started out at $500 more. I shopped both online stores and brick and mortar. Bass Pro was the cheapest for the same model, and got another $70 off from BP bucks. They also are the only ones that offered a rebate. I went to the Minn Kota outlet, and it was a total waste. You get someone from another country, that can't answer any questions. It was only $19 less, but no rebate offer, nor could I spend my BP bucks.

Sorry to hear that Harris. In this supply chain debacle, you should probably be happy that anyone had it in stock. Good luck with the new one buddy.

Thanks buddy, had it in stock at the store, but that's 1 1/2 hrs away. Free shipping on 50 bucks or more.

If you look on the Minn Kota website, 2/3 of their models are out of stock. Sitting in a shipping container offshore or in California..

I'm not sure if they are still built there . With all the electronics in them , I'm sure the shortage of microchips has held up the manufacturing process.

Question is why any large number of chips isn't being made. Just all of a sudden, same as the electric car that they are trying to push on everyone, same reason the gas prices are soaring. Next will be a shortage of gasoline. Anyone with a brain the size of a flea, see what is going on.

The problem is even American semiconductor companies like Motorola are manufacturing in China. With China back in lockdown, many plants are closed. The chips that are already made are stuck in shipping containers, either on ships, or stacked up in California ports.
Everything is computer controlled nowadays, from your microwave, to your car, to your trolling motor. Thousands of companies are waiting for these chips. The answer is to start making them here, like they used to.

Yep, but until we get someone that wants to help America, it won't happen.

Very true Harris. We should leave it at that, so we don't get this thread sent to the attic.

Fred, I have been looking for a spot lock for several months. All the research I have done leads to computer chip shortage. My boat is very high bowed (Klamath 18). I did not want to spend the big bucks for a temporary riptide motor when mine failed. I bought a 40 inch shaft used unit for 70 bucks. I cut the shaft, added wire length, sleeved it to length with pipe and waterproof epoxy putty and started fishing again. I am still looking for the riptide 80 lb. with 60 or 72 inch shaft that has spot lock and tracking.

Yeah Bapa, it's affecting our entire economy. Everyone is blaming the retailers, but even the factory sites are out of stock. The retailer can't sell what he can't get. Good job making something work until you get what you want.

I recently bought my MOTOR GUIDE XI3, with GPS / Spotlock with hand held remote from Bass Pro in Springfield, MO and I am extremely satisfied! I think you made a good choice by purchasing from Bass Pro. I looked around for other options as well but came back to Bass Pro as the best choice at the best price with the needed availability. Just came in and it was a very hot chore, just getting it out of the box. I just finished drilling the holes and put two bolts and nuts tight, and had to come in, too hot. Hey Beaver, how much did that rock your world. I looked a spot lock, and very pricy!
