Okay, guys ! Here's a different one for you ! Some commercial fishermen off the coast of Maine spotted a strange object bobbing and struggling in the water just within sight of their boat; with their curiosity piqued, they approached it carefully, then realized it was a young deer ! They got next to it and carefully hauled it aboard; they figured it must have fallen in and got swept away by strong currents as they were 5 miles out to sea ! Rather than letting it suffer and drown, they interrupted their fishing, rode back a half-hour to
shore and dropped it off on a beach ! They then returned to their former location and continued fishing ! Successful rescue completed !

I remember fishing walleye on Lake Tobin in Saskatchewan Canada. We watched a deer swim out and cross about a mile or more of open water. No rescue here, we were just amazed.
No more swimming for that deer.
GREAT story, I might even know the fisherman as I had a commercial fish business in Portland, Me for 35 years
FYI, Deer are typically good swimmers... and will swim to escape predators. Five miles out is certainly not typical and this was probably caused by a storm.
Their hair is hollow like a straw helps them float.
Part of the way they are made.
It was surmised by the fishermen who rescued it that it was probably swept away by a strong current, which are fairly common in that area ! Also, it was a young deer, barely beyond yearling age, and was on the verge of total exhaustion when they pulled it
out !
Back during one of N.C.floods i've seen seven deer jump in the water and swam about quarter mile when they hit land again they were gone.
