I use a snap on my line to facilitate quick lure changes. Most spinnerbaits come with an open eye these days, not the twisted closed eye like the old days. I get around this problem by wrapping a single strand of copper wire around the eye, closing it off. Then I heat it up with a soldering iron and putting a dab of solder on the wire to lock it in place, and bingo, closed eye.
Cool idea Fred ! Yeah, the twisted wire spinner baits were the way to go.

They were much easier to deal with Chuck. I've thought about trying to twist a new one but I think the ss wire would snap if you don't anneal it first.

I also use a snap or a swivel for quick lure changes I think i may try this!

Give it a shot Papa, it saves a lot of frustration.

What knot do you bass experts recommend for spinner baits? I would say that 1/3 of my casts on Saturday ended up with a fouled presentation. It could have been the knot slipping up the arm, the wind, the curvature of the earth, etc.
What do you recommend?
Hey OJD. I would try tying a palomar knot if you're goin to tie direct. The double line knot should help. 👍

Thanks Saw, that was going be my next choice, but I lost interest (at the time). I ruined many great casts with a fouled lure due to the knot slipping up to the blades. I will give it a try next time out. I have to try Fred’s idea, too, to close that loop.
I haven’t used a swivel clip in many years (concerns about too much hardware) but that may help with line twist as well.
Guys , I ve fished spinner baits for almost 60 years the reason they are not closed is because the line will rap around the closed end and cause the bait to not run true, plus it will damage and weaken the line . It use to be a big problem . I don’t use snaps which would reduce the problem , and make the bait run almost side way if it line rapped behind the closure , not to mention cause less strikes .
I have always use a palomar knot or a Trilene knot because the double the line around the shaft and generally will stop the problem of a fouled presentation .

Thanks, I will try the Palomar not as you and Saw suggested.
Used Palomar knot all my life; never an issue with tangling unless it was my fault.
Fred's idea certainly works. You can also place a split ring over the oval opening up top, which also works.
you can take a prir of needle nose and close the gap then bend the wire back and be able to use a snap.

You are correct Jack, but Stainless Steel wire is brittle. If you're not extremely careful, or anneal the wire first, its very likely it will snap.
I use a 1/16 th long piece of small air line for aquariums over the R bend, can be removed and placed on another lure !

Good idea Maggot, Bob suggested a piece of shrink tubing, also a good idea.
