Mississippi River Continues to Amaze Me!

I am so pleased with the conservation efforts the past few decades that the Upper Mississippi River water quality has improved greatly. From improved farming practices, waste water management improvements, pollution control, etc., and actually the invasive Zebra Mussels filtering water has likely helped too, but there is NO DOUBT that the Mississippi River is MUCH cleaner than when I was a kid (over 50 years ago). The fishing is also much better.

As proof that the water quality has improved, I caught a brown trout while walleye fishing on Friday night! Now, I know that it likely came in from a tributary trout stream into Lake Pepin, but the fact that I caught a trout (my second in a few years), testifies that the water quality has come a long way in the past few decades! I caught these two fish about 5 minutes apart!

Nice catching Rock Hound. As much trouble as the Zebra Mussels cause in pipes and dams, they definitely do clean the water. We have them in several lakes here, and the water clarity is easily 2X what it used to be. Thanks for the pictures.

Nice! Those zebra mussels are blessing and curse. Clean up the water but they do it to well. The eyes will change there patterns a bit but still thrive. Or at least they did here in Lake Erie.
Tight lines
